Farming guide: read the Soilbot and protect your crops

Use the Soilbot to compare field condition before planting, then till, plant and water the crops. Leave a depleted field without growing crops to recover, or use compost when you need to improve it further. Keep grazing animals out of crops you intend to harvest.

Quick guide

  1. Inspect each field in the Soilbot rather than planting blindly.
  2. Plant a crop area you can water with your current stamina and tools.
  3. Leave a depleted plot empty when it needs to recover.
  4. Fence crops before letting animals graze nearby.

Let the field condition change your planting decision

The Soilbot’s field list uses condition levels, from the blue poor-condition face through better levels. The opening tutorial makes you inspect this before tilling and planting. A field’s quality can help crop quality, so choose a healthier field for crops you want to improve.

Leaving a field without growing crops or flowers allows overnight recovery up to level 2 according to the prologue walkthrough. Tilled ground and weeds do not prevent that recovery; an actively growing crop does. Use compost for further improvement instead of waiting for an empty field to rise indefinitely.

Water the crop, then plan the next field

Follow the crop’s watering needs and your current tool prompts. Early stamina is limited, so an editorial starting point is a manageable planted area rather than filling every available tile. Expand once your watering capacity, animal care and travel routine support it.

If you use a plot in another town, keep its daily watering in your route. The firsthand guide describes town plots as keeping their regional season, making them useful when a crop is out of season at Bloomfield.

Keep the harvest you intend to keep

Fence planted fields before allowing hungry animals to graze beside them. Crop-eating can return something to the soil, but that is a separate choice from harvesting a crop for a request. Do not use the soil-recovery benefit as a reason to lose your only needed vegetable.

After harvesting, check which field needs rest and which can carry the next planting. If the daily watering loop is too expensive, upgrade the Watering Can before increasing the crop area.
